Our IB Physics Tutors in HK will set you on the path to success!

The IB Physics curriculum covers five main topics: Space, time, and motion; The particulate nature of matter; Wave behavior; Fields; and Nuclear and quantum physics. The entire curriculum is divided into HL (Higher Level) and SL (Standard Level). They have the same core requirements and hours of study. While HL requires a minimum of 240 hours, SL requires a minimum of 150 hours.

There are paper-based external examinations and internal assessments for IB Physics. Paper-based external exams consist of 3 papers, each evaluating students' knowledge, understanding of the topics, and their problem-solving skills. IB Physics is widely considered a challenging subject among teachers and students, this is why the guidance of the tutors is needed to help students achieve success in the subject.

What is required to get a level 6 or 7 in IB Physics?

In IB Physics grading, there's a strong emphasis on conceptual understanding, the practice of solving complex problems, and the effective application of mathematical principles to real-world scenarios. In order to score 6 or 7 in IB Physics, students should focus on the following areas and strategies:

  • Understand the syllabus and concepts: Familiarize yourself with the IB Physics syllabus and gain a thorough understanding of the covered concepts and topics.

  • Optimize Internal Assessment (IA) scores: Since the IA is less challenging and has no time pressure, aim to secure high scores. Doing so can compensate for lower performance in the final exam and still result in a level 7.

  • Practice past papers: Solving past paper questions is important for success. Aim to complete at least 5 past papers to develop crucial exam skills and get accustomed to the IB examination style.

  • Learn to problem-solve: Develop effective problem-solving techniques for the examination, such as identifying given quantities and determining what the question requires you to find.

  • Study strategically: Make use of simple exam tips and study techniques offered by your teachers or tutors to maximize your chances of achieving a level 6 or 7 in IB Physics.
